                          Weekly Reflection

         Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

                            June 27, 2010

      First Reading 1 Kings 19:16b, 19-21
     Second Reading Galatians 5:1, 13-18
           Gospel Luke 9:51-62

Now it happened that as the time drew near for him to be taken up, he resolutely turned his face
towards Jerusalem and sent messengers ahead of him. These set out, and they went into a Samaritan village to
make preparations for him, but the people would not receive him because he was making for Jerusalem.
Seeing this, the disciples James and John said, 'Lord, do you want us to call down fire from heaven to burn them up?'

But he turned and rebuked them, and they went on to another village.

Luke 9:51-56

As I Saw It

Honduran Mission Team of New Hampshire
I had always wanted to travel to another country and make a difference to the people there.
Little did I know what a difference it would make in my life. I thought that if we brought some supplies,
medical and school, we would be helping to make things better for the people of Honduras.
The fact was that we were only touching the surface and I was frustrated with that. We saw sick people
in the clinics and were not able to give them the basic care that they needed, care we would expect in the U.S.
Simple treatments like an x-ray or antibiotics were beyond what we could provide in the short time
that we were there.   I wanted to do more.
Now after several trips, I realize that what we do in Honduras is very important.
We make connections with the people there.  I look forward to seeing these friends each year;
to see their children grow and to continue making memories with them.
The impact that the annual trips to Honduras have made on me is enormous.
I have gained the satisfaction that we do make a difference when we are there and what
we are doing is important. Also, I appreciate all that I have here in the states, more
than I ever did before. I look forward to the trip each year and meeting new people.
It has been an incredible experience and I am blessed to be part of such a wonderful experience

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS

As you enjoy your summer here is something to think about for the fall.

How about teaching Religious Education?  We are in need of teachers for grades 1 – 5.

If you enjoy working with children and would like to teach them about Jesus and our

Catholic Faith, then give Marie Mullen a call at 893-8662 ext. 304.

Consolers Group

We are looking to begin a consolers group here at MQP.
This group would, ideally, have enough people to make 2 teams of 4.
Members on the team would help set up for funerals, serve at the funerals (3 servers each funeral),
help with communion, possibly be a lector and be on hand to help the family as they
choose the music and readings for the funeral liturgy.  If you would like to know more or say yes
to this important ministry, please give Mary a call at extension 306.

Signed Mass By Jesuit Priest

Joseph Bruce, S.J. is a Jesuit with much experience in the Catholic Deaf Communities in various places in the world.

He is himself deaf. Fr. Bruce will be celebrating several masses with the parish in Salem on the weekend of July 17 & 18.

He will celebrate the liturgies in sign language. The masses will be the 4:00pm at Mary Queen of Peace and the 11:00am mass at St. Joseph.

A signed mass by the celebrant is particularly beautiful. This is an occasion to inform and invite anyone who is deaf about these celebrations

and to contact any leaders of deaf communities in the whole region about these liturgies.

2010 Picnic Meeting
There will be an organizational meeting for this year’s 2010 picnic on June 28th.
We need your hands and your ideas to make this the biggest and best celebration
a celebration of a combined 144 years of faith community and our new journey of one!!
We need lots of help with crafts, face painting, cooking, clean-up, set-up and break down,
making popcorn, sno cones, pie bake-off for the adults and cupcake and cookie bakeoff
for the kiddos, share table and much more.
Come to the meeting June 28th at 6:30 at St. Joseph
in the meeting hall in the basement of the church and see how all the fun begins.
This year’s picnic will be Sunday September 12th, noon to 4.

CAST THE LOVE OF CHRIST UPON THE WORLD

            PETER’S PENCE

Today we support the Holy Father in his charitable works. The Peter’s Pence Collection is taken up
worldwide in an effort of solidarity to support the most disadvantaged: victims of war, oppression, and
natural disaster and others in need of emergency assistance. Pope Benedict XVI has said, “God’s love…
.gives us the courage to continue seeking and working for the benefit of all” (Caritas in Veritate, no. 78).
Cast the love of Christ upon the world-please be generous in today’s Collection.

Gardeners Needed
We are looking for weeders to help us around the church building.
We have one group that does the entrances and sign area.
If we can get several helpers it would not be too much work for anyone.
 Many hands make light work.
If you can help call Ellie Dolan at 898-9648,
Eileen Gauthier at 893-6645 or call the office at 893-8661.

Coming Soon!
 "Got Books"
We are taking the recycling one more step and we will be converting your old books
into cash for the Honduran Mission trip.  You will notice the big “Got Books”
container that is coming soon to the yard by the tennis courts,
all you need to do is bring your books and slide them in.
“Got Books” will take our donations and sort them, sending the children books
still in decent shape to school libraries in poorer areas.
Paper back appropriate for our troops will be sent overseas,
all others will be sold in discount stores. We get a check.  How easy is that?
You can clean out your bookshelves
and help our team, schools and our servicemen/women.

    Dominican Sisters

Once again the Dominican Sisters will be here on the weekend of July 10 &11
for their annual bake sale. They will be selling bread, apple & blueberry pies,
and brownies, baked according to the Dominican community recipes.
The proceeds of the sales will be used to buy medical supplies for their mission

to support the lepers. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Catholic Charities

The total of Mary Queen of Peace’ s donations to Catholic Charities
as of June 9, 2010 is $9,249.85 with a potential of $4,175.00 from pledges.
We thank you for your generosity.
